James A. Culp

VFW Post 9138

History

James A. Culp Post 9138 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was founded on February 13th 1972.  By a group of 31Veterans.

Some of the first meetings took place in a gas station that was owned by  Ray Hozey (The first Commander).

From the gas station the Post moved to a small building on Banks Street.

In 1994 the Post moved to 1442 Harris Road (our current home). This facility would allow the Post room to grow and provide the amenities we needed. Amenities such as a commercial kitchen, banquet room and a large canteen with dance floor. In 2006 we added an outside deck just off the canteen area.

The post is very active in both Core VFW Programs and Community Service Programs as evidenced by our having achieved appointment to the All State Team 6 times. 1989-90, 98-99, 2000-01, 02-03, 03-04 and 05-06. We also made All American for the 1st time ever in the Post's history in 2005-06.
